The annual October film screening for graduate students in partnership with the Windsor International Film Festival, A Night at WIFF, is making a return with the showing of Hindi-language film Superboys of Malegaon.
Superboys of Malegaon is a film based on the life of Nasir Shaikh, an amateur filmmaker from the town of Malegaon. The residents of the town look to Bollywood cinema for a much needed escape from daily drudgery. Nasir gets inspired to make a film for the people of Malegaon, by the people of Malegaon. He bands together his ragtag group of friends to bring his vision to life, thereby bringing a fresh lease of life into the town. The film is a poignant yet uplifting take on both filmmaking and friendship – and what happens when those two worlds collide.
The screening is happening on Sunday, October 27th, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Capitol Theatre on 121 University Ave West, is free, and is open to all graduate students at UWindsor.
New this year is the pre-show party starting at 3:30 PM the same day, where students can hang out, and grab some food and drinks before the theatre opens up. The party starts at 3:30 PM at 300 Ouellette (UWindsor downtown campus). There are limited spots open so students are encouraged to RSVP as soon as they can.
