CAMPAIGNING RULES

Officially nominated candidates, which are approved by the CRO according to elections rules and GSS Constitution, are allowed to individually campaign during the official campaign period only. This period runs:

Campaign Period: Wednesday, March 6, 2024 @ 12:01 AM – Monday, March 11, 2024 @ 11:59 PM
Voting Days: Tuesday, March 12, 2024 @ 9:00 AM – Wednesday, March 13, 2024 @ 6:00 PM

Candidates are permitted to individually campaign within the allowed rules, which are found in the GSS Constitution. Candidates should direct questions or concerns with the process or rules to the CRO, prior to campaigning.

RULES OF FAIR PLAY
Every Candidate must campaign according to the rules of Fair Play. Violating the rules of Fair Play include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Breaching generally accepted community standards
  2. Libel
  3. Slander
  4. Coercion of voters
  5. Harassment
  6. General sabotage of another Candidate’s campaign
  7. Malicious or intentional breach of Elections Policy
  8. Persistent attempts to undermine the ability of the Election Officials or Supporting Staff to carry out their responsibilities
  9. Any attempt to undermine the electoral process.

CAMPAIGN MATERIALS MUST NOT: 

  1. Be created or distributed in the GSS head office
  2. Be hung or posted in University classrooms, lecture halls and seminar rooms
  3. Overlap or be attached to any hung or posted campaign material of another candidate
  4. Be hung, posted, handed out, discarded of or otherwise distributed in areas set out for polling stations locations, CRO will inform the candidates of the polling station locations prior to the first voting day
  5. Have any direct or indirect reference to an opposing candidate
  6. Include or incorporate the GSS or University of Windsor logo
  7. Have any content that denigrates the spirit of a fair and peaceful democratic election
  8. Disparage the spirit of a fair and peaceful democratic election

The electoral process is under the purview of the Chief Returning Officer (CRO), who acts as an independent third-party to the GSS, mandated to coordinate all elections activities, publish elections communications, handle appeals, and respond to member and public inquiries regarding the process.
