Dear Graduate Students:
With COVID-19 continuing to spread throughout the world and Canada, we are taking precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of our members. As you may know, the University of Windsor has moved to cancel all classes on Monday, March 16, Tuesday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 18 following the Senate decision to approve the Emergency Academic Plan to deal with COVID-19. The President’s statement says, “this will provide time for faculty – after consultation with deans, associate deans, and department heads – to alter the delivery of classes away from face to face to other forms of delivery including online. Beginning on Thursday, March 19 all courses will resume with their new form of delivery.”
In conjunction with the University’s decision to cancel or postpone all non-essential University events both on and off campus, the Graduate Student Society will be:
- Postponing our Annual Gala to a later date when deemed safe for our community
- Holding our upcoming Council Meeting Electronically until a later date when in person meetings are deemed to be safe for our community
We also ask that our members adhere to the health guidelines put forth by the university and the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit (WECHU). This includes exercising caution when considering travel and when attending large gatherings, as well as general health precautions such as washing hands thoroughly, avoiding touching your face, and coughing into your upper sleeve. Additionally, many campus services will remain open, including the Campus Food Bank and Student Counseling Centre.
The safety of our membership is the utmost concern at this point. We understand these circumstances can cause immense stress or worry within our community, so please know we are here for you. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
